The city of Dubai in the UAE is no stranger to awards. In fact, it has been dubbed as the “most liveable city” in the Middle East as well as the “best city for expats” earlier this year. Recently, Dubai has gained yet another recognition as one of the world’s best cities for driving.
A study by Kfzteile24, a German-based online car parts retailer, ranks Dubai as the second best city in the world for driving. The top spot goes to Dusseldorf, which headed the list of 100 best and worst cities, based on a preliminary ranking of 500 cities with the highest number of registered vehicles.
Study Shows Dubai among World’s Best Cities for Driving
To analyze the cities’ rankings, the study looked into several factors, namely: accidents and fatalities, air pollution levels, average cost of parking, average speeds, congestion levels, cost of fuel, frequency/perception of road rage, public transportation options, and road quality.
Based on these factors, the study revealed the following findings and insights:
- Dubai, UAE ranked as the best city when it comes to road quality.
- Kolkata, India ranked as the worst city to drive in with 69% congestion levels.
- Many US cities are among the best for driving, but Los Angeles, Miami, and New York are among the worst cities.
- The 20 “worst cities” include developing cities in India, Southeast Asia, Africa, South America, and Eastern Europe.
- Poor road quality and lack of good public transportation are two major factors that lead to negative driving experiences.
Making the Roads Safe & Stress-Free for Drivers
“Cars are an important accessory of modern life, and the means by which many use to get from A to B. Yet poor urban planning or a lack of civil education can make driving the most stressful experience of somebody’s day,” observed Thomas Kloubert, the CMO of Kfzteile24.
“We hope that this study will act as a catalyst for those cities in the negative end of the ranking to invest in safer, cleaner and more efficient roads, and consider how methods adopted by higher scoring cities can be utilised in their own locations,” he added.
