Dubai Metro to Operate Almost 24 Hours on New Year

Going home on New Year’s Day is oftentimes a struggle because you’d expect people (including public transport staff) to be out and celebrating, just like everyone else.

So, with everyone out on the streets celebrating, it’s quite tricky to go out with a car on big holiday events such as New Year, and that has just been the problem the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is going to address towards the build-up for the New Year celebrations.

 

No Need to Drive on New Year’s Day, Dubai Metro to Offer All-day Service

With the official public transport timings released by the RTA last Wednesday (December 26), commuters can expect to get a ride whether by the Dubai Metro, tram, buses, or even water transport starting on December 31 up until January 1.

Metro Schedule

As per the announcement, the Red and Green Line metro stations will begin service on Monday (December 31) from 5:00 am and 5:30 am, respectively, up until January 1.

Tram Schedule

The tram, as per the announcement, will also be available on December 31, from 6 am until 1 am on Wednesday (Tuesday).

Free Parking

Whether you choose to take the public transport or bring your own car, the RTA has also made all paid parking zones free of charge across the entire emirate with the exception of multi-level parking slots on January 1.

Bus Schedule

On January 1st, the timing for public buses will be divided as follows:

  • Main stations (such as Gold Souq)
    • Operating hours: 4:25 am up to 12:30 am
    • (Al Ghubaiba) 4:14 am up to 12:33 am
  • Sub-stations (such as Satwa)
    • Operating hours: 5:00 am to 11:00 pm (except for Route C01, which will run all-day)
    • (Al Qusais station) 5:00 am to 11:45 pm
    • (Al Quoz Indistrial Station) 5:00 am to 11:35 pm
    • (Al Jebel Ali Station) 5:00 am to 11:30 pm
  • Metro Feeder bus stations (Rashidiya, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta, Burj Khalifa, Abu Hail, and Etisalat)
    • Operating hours (during holidays): 5:00 am to 12:10 am
    • Note: The timing of all metro feeder bus routes will be synchronised with the scheduled timings of the metro service.
  • Inter-city bus and commercial bus
    • Main station (such as Al Ghubaiba): Round-the-clock service
      • Abu Dhabi: 4:36 am up to 12:01 am
    • Sub-stations ( such as Union Square): 4:30 am up to 1:25 am (next day)
      • Al Sabkha station: 6:15 am to 1:30 am (next day)
      • Deira City Centre Station: 5:35 am to 11:30 pm
      • Karama Station: 6:10 am to 10:10 pm
      • Al Ahli Club Station: 5:55 am to 10:15 pm
    • External stations (i.e. Sharjah’s Al Taawun Route)
      • Operating hours: 5:30 am up until 10:00 pm
      • (Ajman Route) 5:00 am up until 11:30 pm
      • (Fujairah Route) 5:30 am up until 9:30 pm
      • (Hatta Route) 6:30 am up until 10:30 pm

Water Transport Schedule

Here are the timings for the water transport services available on December 31st up until January 1

  • Water Bus at Marina Stations (Marina Mall, Marina Walk, Marina Terrace, and Marina Promenade)
    • December 31: 10:00 am to 8:00 pm
    • January 1: 12:00 pm to 12:00 am
  • Dubai Ferry – December 31
    • Al Ghubaiba: 11:00 am and 1:00 pm
    • Dubai Marina Station: 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm
  • Dubai Ferry – January 1
    • Al Ghubaiba: 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 6:30 pm
    • Dubai Marina Station (Jaddaf to Dubai Water Canal Station): 5:30 pm
    • Dubai Marina Station (Dubai Water Canal Station to Jaddaf): 7:35 pm
    • Sheikh Zayed Road Station; 6:00 pm to 12:00 am
  • Abras (Monday, December 31)
    • Traditional Abra from Dubai Creek Station (Al Ghubaiba, Baniyas, Dubai Old Souq and Al Seef): 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
    • Electric Abra at the Global Village Station: 4:00 pm to 12:00 am
    • Electric Abra at Al Mamzar: 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm
    • Air-conditioned Abra at Al Jaddaf and Dubai Festival City stations: 07:00 am up to 08:00 pm and from 12:30 am to 02:00 am of the following day.
  • Abras (Monday, January 1)
    • Traditional Abra from Dubai Creek Station (Al Ghubaiba, Baniyas, Dubai Old Souq and Al Seef): 10:00 am to 12:00 am
    • Electric Abra at Burj Khalifa from 06:00 pm to 11:00 pm; at Al Mamzar from 05:00 pm to 12:00 am on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and public holidays
    • Electric Abra at Al Qasr Hotel Station to Dubai Mall Station: 11:30 am to 11:00 pm, and at Burj Plaza Station (round trips) from 11:30 am to 11:00 pm.
    • Electric Abra at  the Global Village, Al Seef and Baniyas Stations:                4:00 pm to 12:00 am
    • Electric Abra at the Sheikh Zayed Road Station: 04:00 pm to 10:00 pm
    • Air-conditioned Abra at Al Jaddaf and Dubai Festival City stations: 7:00 am to 12:00 am

Do note, however, that all service providers, vehicle testing and registration centres will be closed on January 1 and resume on January 2.
