UAE is set to train 22,000 teachers and educators to use artificial intelligence in the classroom

ABU DHABI: The UAE is set to train 22,000 teachers and educators to use artificial intelligence in the classroom. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, shared the plan while chairing the UAE Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi.

The Cabinet reviewed a programme to develop the capabilities of teachers and educators using AI tools. The goal is to help them use AI as a support in day-to-day teaching, so students across the country can benefit from more modern, engaging classrooms.

For parents and educators across Dubai and the wider UAE, it’s a development worth following closely. Here’s what the programme sets out to do and why it matters.

According to WAM news agency, the training will cover the use of AI in:

  • Teaching and classroom delivery
  • Assessment of student work
  • Curriculum analysis
  • Lesson planning
  • Fostering innovation among students

Teachers as Lifelong Learners

Sheikh Mohammed placed teachers at the centre of this shift. He noted that the huge technological changes of our era will reshape the reality, processes, and tools of education.

To meet their evolving role, he said, teachers “will have to become lifelong learners.”

He also offered a clear reminder of what’s at stake: “If we teach our children today using the same methods of yesterday, we are depriving them of their future.”

The message is a supportive one. Rather than expecting teachers to face change on their own, the programme is built to guide them through it, step by step.

The programme runs alongside the Cabinet’s approval of a nationwide AI curriculum for all public and private schools, following a successful pilot in public schools. The UAE has also approved a mechanism to share its AI curriculum with education ministries internationally.

What Comes Next

The training will move forward as the programme reaches teachers and educators across the country. Progress on how the UAE is using AI across sectors, including education, is expected to feature at the UAE Government Annual Meetings, set for November 8 to 10, 2026, themed around readiness and resilience.

For families and educators across the UAE, the message is a reassuring one. As classrooms evolve, teachers are being supported to grow alongside their students, so no one has to navigate the change alone.
