Twenty-five people were injured in a serious multi-vehicle crash on Jebel Ali Road in Dubai after a bus suddenly stopped in the middle of the road due to a technical fault. The injuries ranged from serious to moderate and minor, and all those hurt were rushed to hospital for treatment.

According to Dubai Police, the chain of events began when the bus came to an unexpected halt in the middle of the road. A vehicle and two other buses following behind were unable to avoid it. Due to negligence and a lack of attention, they slammed into the stationary bus in a rear-end collision that left 25 people injured.

How Emergency Teams Responded

As soon as the Command and Control Centre received the report, experts from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section were dispatched to the scene. Their job was to inspect the site and gather precise evidence to pinpoint the exact causes of the crash.

“Traffic patrols regulated traffic flow and secured the site to facilitate rescue vehicle access, while work teams removed the damaged vehicles to restore normal traffic flow,” said Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic.

A Serious Warning About Stopping Mid-Road

This accident prompted Dubai Police to issue a strong warning about the dangers of stopping in the middle of the road, whether due to a vehicle breakdown, running out of fuel, or a tyre failure. The Force stressed that drivers must make sure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting off.

Brigadier Al Awar described stopping in the middle of the road as one of the most dangerous violations on the roads, one that often leads to severe accidents, fatalities, and serious injuries. He urged motorists to contact the police right away if their vehicle breaks down and cannot be moved, so that officers can secure the stranded vehicle with patrols and follow proper procedures to protect passengers and other road users.

Fines Under the Federal Traffic Law

The penalties for stopping in the middle of the road are steep. Under the Federal Traffic Law, drivers face:

  • A fine of AED 1,000 and six traffic points for stopping in the middle of the road
  • An additional AED 500 fine for obstructing traffic under Article 98

What to Do if Your Vehicle Breaks Down

If your vehicle suffers a technical fault or is involved in an accident and you cannot move it off the road, Brigadier Al Awar says you must take preventive measures to avoid making things worse. He outlined the following steps:

  • Activate your hazard warning lights
  • Make sure you and any passengers are safe first
  • Place a warning triangle behind the vehicle at a safe distance, where possible, to alert approaching drivers
  • Leave the vehicle entirely and move to a safe location away from the road
  • Finally, contact the police

The message from Dubai Police is clear. A moment of inattention or an unroadworthy vehicle can turn a routine drive into a crash that injures dozens. Before you hit the road, check your vehicle, stay alert, and know exactly what to do if things go wrong.
