AI to Be Taught in All UAE Public and Private Schools

ABU DHABI: The UAE has approved plans to teach artificial intelligence across all public and private schools in the country. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the move while chairing the UAE Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi.

The Cabinet approved the implementation of a national AI curriculum for schools at every level. A pilot programme and evaluation had already shown positive results in public schools before the wider rollout was approved.

What Students Will Learn

The AI curriculum is designed to give students a working understanding of the technology and how to use it responsibly. It focuses on:

• The technical requirements of AI, so students understand how the technology works.
• An awareness of the ethical applications of AI and how to use it responsibly.
• A stronger understanding of AI data, algorithms, applications, and risks.

The goal is to help students grasp both the possibilities and the limits of AI. That means learning not only what these tools can do, but also where care and good judgment are needed.

What It Means for Families

The curriculum applies to every public and private school in the UAE, so all students will be covered regardless of which school they attend. The goal, as Sheikh Mohammed put it, is “building a generation proficient in the tools of the future.”

To support the rollout, 22,000 teachers and educators will receive training in AI tools for teaching, assessment, and lesson planning.

The UAE also approved a mechanism to share the curriculum with education ministries internationally.
