Dubai Announces New Rules on Social Events, Physical Distancing in Food Establishments

In a series of new regulations upheld by the Dubai government, it has added another one concerning social events and physical distancing, also in food establishments.

The additional safety measure aims to strengthen the emirate’s fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) amid the threat of a new variant, infiltrating populations across the world.

Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management mandated that only first-degree relatives will be allowed to attend weddings, social events, and private parties. Moreover, only a maximum of 10 guests will be allowed to attend, whether at a hotel or at home, the Dubai Media Office reported.

The said directive will take effect on January 27.

In another advisory posted last January 22 by the news agency’s Twitter page, tables in restaurants across the emirate will be set up 3 meters apart compared to the previous 2 meters.

And from 10 persons, the number of people now allowed to occupy one table has been reduced to seven.

Meanwhile, in cafes, only customers will be allowed to occupy each table, and these must also be set at least 3 meters apart from each other.

Fitness centers and gyms were also instructed to increase the physical distancing between the sports equipment and trainees from two to three meters.

The Dubai Tourism has already suspended all entertainment permits, indefinitely shutting down 20 establishments and issuing over 200 violations in the last three weeks.

In line with this, the Dubai government warned that authorities will be on the ground to ensure that establishments will follow precautionary measures.
