Etihad Airways lays off employees across several departments

Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi’s leading airline, has laid off employees this month, which also includes cabin crew. This decision to redundate across several departments is due to the decrease of operations due to the virus.

This announcement was made according to a Reuters report wherein an Etihad spokeswoman told Reuters there had been job cuts across several areas of the airline.

Etihad job redundancies across several areas

The Etihad spokeswoman said “The coronavirus pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to businesses around the world, and Etihad is no exception. It is clear the demand for travel in the near future will be significantly reduced and as a result we must make difficult decisions to ensure Etihad will weather this storm.”

According to reports, Etihad did not mention did not mention which specific department was included in the job cuts. The Abu Dhabi-based aviation group has employed 20,369 people at the end of 2019.

In other news, Etihad announced on Tuesday (May 19, 2020) that it has increased its number of special flights and will add new services to Belgrade, Dublin, Geneva, Milan, Paris, and Toronto.
