Dubai: Residents now have a new way to travel between Dubai and Abu Dhabi after Etihad Rail officially added Dubai to its growing passenger rail network.

Passenger services connecting Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Fujairah began on September 30, 2026. Fares for trips between Dubai and Abu Dhabi start at just AED 39 for Comfort Class, while Premium Class fares start at AED 109.

Dubai joins the UAE passenger rail network

The opening follows the inauguration of Etihad Rail’s Dubai Station by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also travelled aboard Etihad Rail from Abu Dhabi to Dubai ahead of the launch.

The Dubai connection expands a passenger network that first began operating between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah in June 2026.

Tickets start at Dh39

Passengers travelling between Dubai and Abu Dhabi can book Comfort Class tickets starting at AED 39 or Premium Class tickets starting at AED 109.

Etihad Rail says tickets can be purchased through its mobile app, website and ticket machines at the stations.

For residents planning trips in the other direction, Dubai-to-Fujairah fares currently start at AED 29.

Dubai Metro connection makes travel easier

The Dubai station is located at Al Yalayis and is connected to Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station through a dedicated pedestrian bridge.

This means passengers arriving by train can transfer to the Dubai Metro and continue to other parts of the city without needing a car.

Etihad Rail has also integrated its service with Dubai’s Nol system. Passengers can book their rail journey and public transport connections using a unified QR code that works for the train, Metro, Tram and buses.

The railway operator said the station also offers access to parking, taxis, buses and private transport services.

For OFWs and other residents who regularly travel between Dubai and Abu Dhabi for work, family visits or leisure, the new service provides another alternative to driving or taking a bus.
