UAE: Sharjah has revealed plans for two residential projects featuring homes built inside the sea in Kalba.
Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, announced the projects during the “Direct Line” program on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.
The developments form part of the wider Khor Kalba City masterplan, which has been under preparation for around seven years.
Homes Planned Behind University of Kalba
The two residential projects are being developed behind the University of Kalba and will extend toward the sea.
Sheikh Sultan described the homes as having a special design and being located “inside the sea.”
However, officials have not yet released drawings, technical plans or full details about how the homes will be built.
The number of residences, their cost and their expected completion dates also remain unconfirmed.
Kalba Project Balances Growth and Heritage
The wider Khor Kalba City plan is designed to transform the east coast city into a new tourism and leisure destination.
At the same time, the project aims to protect Kalba’s archaeological sites, historic character and natural environment.
Sharjah has already completed several projects in the area, including restored heritage sites, public spaces, waterfront upgrades and tourism attractions.
The latest sea-based housing plans add a new feature to the city’s long-term development.
Roads, Lakes and Corniche Projects Coming
Several parts of the masterplan are expected to be inaugurated in December.
These include new road networks, corniche developments and compensation housing for eligible residents.
The list also includes Al Hayar Lake and its rest area, road works in Wadi Al Helo and additional tourism projects across Khor Kalba City.
The projects are expected to improve access, public spaces and visitor facilities.
Key Housing Details Still Unconfirmed
Authorities have not said whether the sea-based homes will be sold to private buyers, reserved for citizens or used for tourism.
No project value, sales process or investment details have been announced.
Residents and possible investors should wait for official information before making plans.
For now, the announcement shows that Kalba’s transformation is moving beyond roads and tourism attractions into new waterfront housing concepts.
