Manila, Philippines: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is rolling out dedicated X-ray lanes for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) at key international airports, part of an effort to make customs processing faster and more organized for returning and departing Filipino workers.
The initiative gives OFWs their own designated lanes for customs inspection and baggage examination, aiming to ease their passage through one of the busier steps of travel.
Where the Lanes Are Available
The BOC said the dedicated lanes are currently in place at:
- Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1
- NAIA Terminal 3
- Clark International Airport
At these gateways, OFWs can use the designated X-ray lanes when undergoing customs inspection and baggage checks.
What the Initiative Aims to Do
Through the dedicated lanes, the BOC said it hopes to improve passenger flow, reduce unnecessary waiting time, and give OFWs a more streamlined customs experience. The bureau added that the lanes will still ensure compliance with existing customs laws and procedures.
The measure is designed to help travelers move through customs more smoothly, while keeping border protection and enforcement standards in place.
Commissioner Cites Contribution of OFWs
Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno said the bureau will progressively expand the program to other international airports and passenger terminals across the country, so more OFWs can benefit from the service.
“We recognize the important contribution of our OFWs, hindi lamang sa kanilang mga pamilya kundi pati na rin sa ating bansa. Through these dedicated X-ray lanes, gusto nating gawing mas mabilis, maayos, at convenient ang kanilang pagdaan sa Customs. Layunin nating palawakin pa ang initiative na ito sa iba pang international gateways para mas maraming OFWs ang makinabang sa mas maayos na serbisyo,” Nepomuceno said.

Part of Broader Modernization Efforts
According to the BOC, the rollout forms part of its broader modernization and passenger service initiatives under Commissioner Nepomuceno. These efforts draw on technology and streamlined procedures to improve the passenger experience while maintaining effective customs enforcement.
The bureau said it remains committed to expanding practical, passenger-centered reforms that make customs services more efficient and accessible, particularly for OFWs who support their families and contribute to the country’s economy.
What Happens Next
The BOC said it plans to bring the dedicated lanes to additional international gateways over time. For now, OFWs traveling through NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 and Clark International Airport can already use the designated lanes during customs processing.
