Rent Now, Pay Later Could Let Tenants Pay Annual Rent Monthly

Dubai is preparing a Rent Now, Pay Later service that could let eligible tenants repay annual rent over up to 12 zero-interest monthly instalments. A participating bank would pay the landlord upfront, while the tenant repays the bank. Final eligibility and application details are still pending.

Rent Now, Pay Later Could Let Tenants Pay Annual Rent Monthly

DUBAI: Dubai tenants may soon be able to spread their annual rent over up to 12 monthly instalments without interest, under a planned Rent Now, Pay Later service expected to launch in September 2026.

The proposed system is being developed by the Dubai Land Department in partnership with a local bank, according to reports citing Emarat Al Youm.

Under the plan, the bank would pay the landlord the full annual rent upfront. The tenant would then repay the bank in monthly instalments over a period of up to 12 months.

How the New Rent Payment System Could Work

The proposed arrangement is designed to solve one of the biggest challenges faced by Dubai tenants: paying a large amount of rent in one or several cheques.

Instead, an eligible tenant would select a residential property and apply under the new payment arrangement.

If approved, the participating bank would settle the annual rent with the landlord.

The tenant would then make regular repayments to the bank, potentially over 12 months and at zero interest.

This could allow tenants to manage rent more like a monthly household expense rather than setting aside a large lump sum.

Landlords Would Still Receive Their Rent Upfront

The proposed model is also designed to protect landlords from having to wait for monthly rent payments.

The bank would pay the landlord the full annual amount at the start of the arrangement.

The tenant’s monthly payment obligation would then be with the bank instead of the landlord.

This could make monthly rent more practical for landlords who still prefer receiving a full year’s payment upfront.

How This Differs From Dubai’s Flexi Rent

The planned Rent Now, Pay Later service follows the launch of the Dubai Land Department’s Flexi Rent initiative in June 2026.

Flexi Rent already allows participating property companies to offer tenants payment schedules such as monthly, quarterly and semi-annual instalments.

However, the reported Rent Now, Pay Later model adds another layer.

Instead of the landlord simply agreeing to monthly payments, a participating bank would reportedly pay the annual rent upfront and collect the instalments from the tenant.

Who Can Apply?

This is the part tenants should not assume yet.

The final eligibility requirements for Rent Now, Pay Later have not been publicly confirmed by DLD.

Details such as minimum salary, required documents, participating bank, application process, possible fees and property requirements are expected to be announced when the service officially launches.

For now, residents should avoid treating the reported zero-interest plan as automatically available to every tenant.

What Dubai Tenants Should Know

Dubai is clearly moving toward more flexible rental payment options.

DLD’s existing Flexi Rent programme already supports monthly, quarterly and semi-annual payment arrangements through participating property companies.

The planned Rent Now, Pay Later service could make monthly rent even easier by involving a bank that pays the landlord upfront.

Tenants interested in the service should wait for the official launch details before applying or committing to any financing arrangement.
