The United Arab Emirates has sent additional humanitarian assistance to Nepal following severe floods and landslides that have affected communities across the country, with thousands of people reported dead and thousands still missing.
The UAE has sent three relief missions to Nepal under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, backed by a US$10 million humanitarian allocation:
- First aircraft – carried 83 tonnes of food supplies and shelter materials
- Second aircraft – carried 45 tonnes of relief supplies, including basic food items, essential supplies and power generators
- Third mission (September 3, 2026) – a specialist team from the Joint Operations Command, Dubai Police Search & Rescue Team, and UAE Aid Agency, including experts in disaster relief, medical evacuation and first aid, deployed to support search-and-rescue operations and provide urgent medical assistance in coordination with Nepalese authorities
The UAE Aid Agency, working with the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu, is coordinating the response with local authorities and international organisations to ensure aid reaches affected men, women and children.
Two UAE Relief Shipments Sent to Nepal
The latest delivery follows the arrival of the first UAE relief aircraft in August, which carried urgent assistance for communities affected by the floods and landslides.
The second shipment includes:
- Essential food supplies
- Relief materials
- Power generators
- Other basic necessities needed by affected communities
The supplies are intended to provide immediate assistance to families, particularly those in areas that have experienced the most severe impact from the flooding and landslides.
The UAE said the assistance is part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support communities affected by natural disasters and emergencies.
Latest Report: 903 Deaths and More Than 4,200 Missing
According to a report issued on September 1, 2026, more than 20,000 search-and-rescue personnel have been deployed to flood-affected areas across Nepal.
Nepali authorities have reported:
- 903 fatalities
- More than 267 people injured
- More than 4,200 people missing
- More than 10,000 people rescued, including 252 foreign nationals
The flooding and landslides have affected 15 municipalities and two disaster zones, while emergency response operations continue despite difficult access to some areas.
Humanitarian Response Continues
The United Nations and its humanitarian partners are coordinating relief operations, with a primary coordination hub established in Nuwakot. Eleven emergency medical teams have been deployed, while psychological first aid has been provided to around 400 residents.
Relief agencies are also addressing food, water, sanitation, health and child-protection needs. The World Food Programme has dispatched 80 metric tonnes of food assistance intended to support approximately 9,200 people for 15 days.
The United Nations estimates that around 65,000 people need immediate water, sanitation and hygiene assistance, while more than 22,000 children require critical protection services.
Infrastructure has also been damaged. Nineteen schools have reportedly been affected, including nine that were completely destroyed. Eight schools are currently being used as emergency shelters for displaced residents.
The UAE’s latest relief shipment adds to the international response as Nepal continues search-and-rescue operations and works to restore essential services in areas affected by the floods and landslides.
