A criminal court in Ras Al Khaimah has sentenced a 56-year-old Yemeni man to death after finding him responsible for the killing of a mother and her two adult daughters. The judgment stems from a shooting that took place in a residential neighborhood last year following an argument over a blocked driveway.
The Court’s Findings
The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court convicted the defendant on three separate charges:
- Intentional murder for the deaths of the three women
- Attempted murder relating to a surviving family member
- Making death threats against members of the household
Based on these convictions, the court handed down the death penalty.
What Happened That Night
According to details presented in court, the incident unfolded shortly before midnight on May 7 of last year. Tensions rose when a disagreement broke out over a vehicle said to be obstructing a driveway in the area.
The confrontation quickly turned violent. Prosecutors said the man used both a vehicle and an unlicensed firearm during the attack.
The Victims
Three members of the same family lost their lives:
- The mother, aged 66
- Her daughter, aged 36
- Her daughter, aged 38
A fourth family member, a 47-year-old daughter, was wounded during the attack but survived.
A Second Conviction
The court also delivered a ruling against the defendant’s son. He was found guilty of attempted murder and of threatening to kill another family member. His penalties included:
- A prison term for attempted murder
- An additional prison term for issuing threats
- A fine of Dh10,000 (about $2,720)
- A court fee of Dh100
What Comes Next
The verdict is not final. Under UAE procedure, the defense has 15 days to lodge an appeal.
Any death sentence in the country must clear further judicial review before it can be carried out. Both the Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation must confirm the original ruling for the sentence to stand.
