UAE: Filipino workers in the UAE who may need to return home have been advised to ensure they are “repat-ready” by preparing key travel documents and requirements in advance, according to the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
In an advisory released March 15, the office outlined several basic conditions overseas Filipino workers must meet to facilitate smooth repatriation processing should they need assistance returning to the Philippines.
The guidance was issued alongside an infographic reminding workers and their families to check their documents early and coordinate with Philippine government offices if issues arise.

Key requirements for OFW repatriation
MWO Dubai said workers planning or expecting repatriation should ensure the following conditions are met:
- Valid passport or travel document
- Valid or active employment visa
- No legal case or travel ban
- Fit-to-travel certificate if with medical condition
Officials stressed that passports must remain valid for at least six months, or travelers must secure another recognized travel document before leaving the UAE.
Workers holding travel documents instead of passports may face limitations, as cross-border travel may not always be allowed, depending on immigration rules.

Visa status also important
The office also emphasized that having a valid or active employment visa is essential for workers who wish to exit the UAE and potentially return to work later.
According to the advisory:
• Workers whose visas were cancelled but who are still within the grace period may still depart legally.
• Workers who plan to return to their employer are encouraged to inform the company before leaving to avoid being tagged as absconding.
• Those who will not return to their jobs must cancel their visas before departure.
• Workers with overstay or absconding cases must apply for an outpass for direct travel.
Legal issues may prevent departure
MWO Dubai also reminded workers that individuals with pending cases or travel bans cannot leave the country until the matter is resolved.
Affected workers are advised to coordinate with the office for legal guidance and assistance.
Medical clearance required in some cases
Passengers with health conditions, including those who are pregnant, may be asked to provide a fit-to-travel certificate from a doctor before boarding a flight.
The requirement helps ensure travelers are medically safe to undertake long-distance travel.
