Parents of two young children in Dubai suffered tragic loss when an 18-month-old girl and her 2-year-old cousin died after drowning in a family swimming pool in Mirdif on a Friday evening.
According to a report from The National, the incident occured while the families were having iftar. The mothers searched for their children when they found they were missing, and found them in the pool. They immediately contacted for emergency and the authorities took out the bodies from the water.
In a report by GulfNews, Brigadier Ahmad Thani Bin Gulaitha, head of Police Stations Council in Dubai Police, mentions that there the door from the kitchen that led to the pool seemed to be left open by mistake.
They tried to recover the little girl however she was later declared dead, whereas the boy was was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but was pronounced dead the next day (Saturday).
The public has been urged to monitor their children at all times especially when near swimming pools as this poses great danger when they are left unattended. Parents are advised to take precautionary measures such as have a fence or make sure the doors leading to pools are locked. Parents also need to make sure their children are in constant supervision.
