What Is an Outpass and Why It Matters

An outpass (exit permit) is a document issued by the UAE government. It allows a person to exit the country legally if they have problems with their passport or visa.

This is important for OFWs who cannot leave normally due to immigration issues.

Who Needs an Outpass

MWO-Dubai explained that an outpass is required for individuals who:

  • Lost their passport
  • Have expired or cancelled passports
  • Are overstaying
  • Have absconding cases
  • Have deportation orders
  • Children without valid UAE visas

If you fall under any of these, you may not be allowed to leave the UAE without this document.

Basic Requirements to Prepare

Before applying, OFWs should prepare the following:

  • Passport or travel document
  • Emirates ID or copy of last visa
  • Lost passport certificate if needed
  • Copy of confirmed flight ticket
  • Payment of around AED 250 to AED 600

Incomplete documents may delay the process.

Where to Apply in the UAE

The application process depends on where your last visa was issued:

Dubai:

  • AMER Centers for expired visa, overstay, or absconding
  • Al Awir Immigration for absconding cases with valid visa

Other Emirates (Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah):

  • Typing centers (online processing)

Umm Al Quwain:

  • Tasheel centers first, then Immigration Center for biometrics

For travel documents, OFWs should first contact the Philippine Consulate in Dubai or the Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Important Deadline to Remember

Once issued, the outpass is only valid for 7 days.

This means you must leave the UAE within one week. If not, you need to apply again.

Special Reminder on Overstay Cases

According to UAE authorities, some expired tourist or cancelled employment visas from February 28, 2026 onwards may not require overstay fines.

However, an outpass is still required to exit legally.
