The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is encouraging overseas Filipino workers to avail of the OWWA e-card, highlighting its value as a valid government ID and a gateway to discounts and faster transactions, the Philippine News Agency reported.
In a phone interview on Thursday, OWWA Ilocos Region labor communications officer Rubylyn Munar said the e-card serves as official proof of active OWWA membership. It can be used when dealing with Migrant Workers Offices, Philippine embassies, and other government service points that cater to OFWs.

Beyond identification, the e-card also comes with practical perks. Munar said card holders can enjoy exclusive discounts of up to 50 percent at select partner establishments. These include airlines, hotels, cargo services, and other travel related providers that often cater to OFWs and their families.
OWWA is currently finalizing new and renewed partnership agreements. A complete list of partner establishments will be released once the memoranda of agreement are completed.
Availment of the physical e-card ID is free for active members. OFWs can get their cards at OFW lounges in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminals 1 and 3, at the OWWA National Capital Region office, and at the Seafarers Hub in Makati City.
According to Munar, the process is quick and simple. OFWs only need to present proof of active OWWA membership, and the ID can be released in about 15 minutes.
The e-card is valid for two years, the same period as OWWA membership. Membership costs USD 25 or about PHP 1,500 and provides access to welfare assistance, social benefits, and support services for OFWs and their families.
OWWA also used the opportunity to encourage more overseas workers to keep their membership active. Munar stressed that membership provides an added layer of security, especially during emergencies, job related issues, or repatriation needs.
As of January 28, OWWA data shows that the Ilocos Region has 109,769 active members out of a total of 478,441 registered members. OWWA continues to push information drives to raise awareness on the benefits of maintaining active membership and using the e-card for daily convenience.
