OWWA Warns OFWs: No ₱150,000 Financial Assistance Being Distributed

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are being warned about a viral online claim stating that the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) are distributing ₱150,000 financial assistance.

According to OWWA, the information circulating online is not true.

In an advisory released on March 5, authorities said some posts and videos are spreading misleading claims about the supposed aid program. Officials noted that some of these materials even use AI-generated videos and edited content to make the claims appear legitimate.

The agency urged Filipinos to remain cautious and avoid believing or sharing posts that do not come from verified government sources.

Viral ₱150,000 Aid Claim Is Fake

The false information suggests that OFWs can receive ₱150,000 in financial assistance from the government. However, OWWA clarified that no such program currently exists.

Officials expressed concern that the misinformation is spreading at a time when the government is focused on supporting and protecting Filipino workers abroad.

Authorities warned that misleading posts can create confusion and may even expose OFWs to scams or fraudulent schemes.

OFWs are advised to verify any government-related announcements before taking action or sharing information online.

Real Benefits Available for OWWA Members

While the ₱150,000 assistance claim is false, OWWA emphasized that legitimate programs and benefits are available for registered members and their families.

These include:

  • Financial assistance for OFWs in distress or facing emergency situations

  • Livelihood and reintegration programs for returning OFWs who want to start a business or rebuild their careers in the Philippines

  • Training assistance and scholarships to help workers upgrade their skills and expand employment opportunities

These programs are part of the government’s ongoing support services for Filipino workers overseas.

Where OFWs Can Get Official Information

Authorities are encouraging OFWs to rely only on official channels when checking for announcements about assistance programs or services.

For verified updates, OFWs are advised to follow:

  • The official social media pages of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)

  • The official platforms of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)

Officials also reminded the public to be critical of viral posts, especially those that lack clear sources or links to government agencies.

As misinformation continues to circulate online, agencies say they remain committed to providing reliable support and services to Filipinos working abroad.
