Dubai, UAE – Dubai Police have successfully stopped a daring attempt to steal a rare pink diamond worth $25 million. The operation, called “Pink Diamond,” was completed in just eight hours, showcasing the police’s quick action and advanced technology.
A Rare Gem Targeted
The pink diamond, weighing 21.25 carats, is classified as “Fancy Intense” and is one of the rarest in the world. Its exceptional clarity and unique features made it a prime target for criminals. The diamond’s owner, a jeweler, had imported it from Europe to sell in Dubai.
The Criminal Plan
The gang, made up of three individuals of Asian nationality, spent over a year planning the heist. They pretended to be wealthy buyers, renting luxury cars and meeting the jeweler in high-end hotels to gain his trust. They even hired a diamond expert to authenticate the gem, making their scheme seem legitimate.
Eventually, they convinced the jeweler to bring the diamond to a villa, where they claimed a buyer was waiting. Once the diamond was in their hands, they fled the scene.
Swift Police Action
As soon as the jeweler reported the theft, Dubai Police formed a special task force. Using advanced technology, they tracked the suspects, who had split up and moved to different locations. In a coordinated operation, the police raided these locations, arrested the suspects, and recovered the diamond before it could be smuggled out of the country.
The gang had planned to hide the diamond in a small refrigerator and ship it to an Asian destination.
A Safe Haven for Diamonds
The jeweler praised Dubai Police for their quick and professional response. “To my surprise, the very next morning, they called to say the suspects had been arrested and the diamond recovered,” he said.
He also urged others in the diamond trade to follow safety guidelines to prevent such incidents. “Dubai has become a safe global center for diamond trade. It’s important we uphold the standards that make that possible,” he added.
