Jesus Miguel A. Sto. Domingo, or J.M., has an incredible story. He is a Filipino chef working at the IBIS Hotel in Dubai as a Demi Chef de Partie. But what makes his story even more special is that J.M. is deaf. He has been in Dubai for 8 years. Despite not being able to speak, he’s overcome challenges in the kitchen and succeed in his career through determination, hard work, and a true passion for cooking.
J.M. learned cooking when he started working in a pancake house. Over the years, he gained experience in busy kitchens and never gave up on his dream of becoming a chef. Today, J.M. is a proud member of the Filipino community in Dubai and a true example of what hard work, skill, and determination can achieve.
Success Despite Challenges
Life has not been easy for J.M. Working in a noisy, fast-paced kitchen is extra challenging when you can’t hear. But he has shown that being deaf is not a barrier to success.
Here are some reasons why J.M. is inspiring to so many people:
- He didn’t stop pursuing his dreams, even with challenges.
- His creativity and skills in cooking have made him a standout.
- He is one of about 50 Filipino deaf workers in Dubai’s top companies like Accor, Tim Hortons, and Hilton.
J.M. is proof that disabilities don’t define a person—passion does!
Celebrating Excellence
Tomorrow, J.M. will receive his OWWA E-Card during the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo-OFW Serbisyo Caravan event. This event honors the hard work of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and brings government services closer to them.
This recognition is a big moment for J.M. It highlights not just his achievement but also the strength of the Filipino deaf community abroad.
A Role Model for All
J.M.’s story reminds us that success comes from determination. He continues to prove that Filipinos are talented and hardworking, no matter the odds. Even in silence, J.M.’s excellence speaks loudly.
J.M. is an inspiration to everyone—showing that dreams can come true with hard work and dedication.
