UAE Provides Over 10,000 Rest Stations for Delivery Workers During Midday Break

The UAE continues to champion worker welfare by rolling out over 10,000 air-conditioned rest stations for delivery workers during the Midday Break period, from June 15 to September 15, 2025. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), this initiative aims to protect workers from the harsh summer heat and provide them with comfortable resting spaces during peak midday hours.

This large-scale effort is the result of collaboration with several government agencies and private sector organizations. Key contributors include Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi, the Departments of Economic Development across the Emirates, and Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat). Delivery platforms such as Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, and Careem have also participated, alongside numerous restaurants, shopping centers, retail outlets, and cloud kitchens.

The introduction of these rest stations builds upon last year’s initiative, which saw 6,000 facilities provided. This year’s significant expansion reaffirms the UAE’s commitment to safeguarding the health of delivery workers, a vital workforce operating without fixed locations and under tight timeframes. To streamline access, interactive maps on delivery apps will guide workers to the nearest available stations.

The UAE’s Midday Break law, a longstanding labor protection regulation, prohibits outdoor work from 12:30 PM to 3 PM during the summer. Additionally, employers are obligated to provide shaded rest areas, cooling devices, sufficient hydration supplies, and first aid equipment at work sites. Community members are encouraged to report violations of the Midday Break regulations via MoHRE’s call center, app, or official website.

We commend the UAE for its proactive steps in ensuring the well-being of delivery workers, particularly during the challenging summer months. This initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also highlights the nation’s ongoing commitment to creating a safe and compassionate environment for its workforce.

We extend our gratitude to MoHRE, RTA, the Integrated Transport Centre, and all participating partners for their collective efforts in prioritizing worker safety. These initiatives serve as a reminder that progress and care are deeply intertwined, enabling the UAE to set a global example for workforce welfare.
