1. Tell us about yourself.
Hi! I’m Jonathan Corporal Sibol, but most people call me “Ethan.” I’m 37 years old and currently working as an Animal Trainer, Dog Walker, and Pet Sitter. I studied BS Psychology at the University of Rizal System. I’ve been living in Abu Dhabi since 2010, making me a 15-year resident here.
Over the years, I’ve been featured in news programs like TV Patrol, GMA News, The Filipino Channel, and in articles from Khaleej Times, UAE National, The Filipino Times, and The Filipino Global Magazine.
I’ve also received several awards, including Cat Ambassador 2022, First Ever Filipino Influencer 2023, Everyday Hero Award, Top 100 Filipino Influencers 2023, Golden Icons Award 2023, and Voice of the Voiceless 2024.
2. Why did you come to the UAE?
I came to the UAE to find a good career and motivate myself to grow. In 2010, I started working as a Receptionist in a Health Club Company.
3. What were your previous jobs?
In 2010, I worked as a Receptionist in a Health Club Company. By 2014, I transitioned to working in retail sales. In 2016, I became a Front Desk Receptionist in a Fitness Health Club.
However, 2018 was a challenging year for me as I was almost jobless for a year. During this time, I worried about my life and how I could continue feeding and rescuing stray cats.
Some people in rescue groups suggested I offer pet-sitting and dog-walking services, which I found enjoyable and fulfilling. I then took online courses in animal training and became certified in handling and caring for pets. Now, I love my career as an Animal Trainer.
4. How do you find your current job? Are you happy/satisfied with it?
I truly enjoy my current job as an Animal Trainer. It allows me to combine my passion for animals with my career, and I find it incredibly rewarding.
5. Is it difficult to live in the UAE? What are/were your struggles? What’s life like outside work?
In 2018, I faced a tough time when I was almost jobless for a year. It was a period of uncertainty and worry, especially with regard to how I could continue my advocacy for stray cats. However, I found a way to turn things around by pursuing a career in animal care, which I now love.
6. What do you like about the UAE?
I love the UAE because it’s a very safe country. You can walk late at night and feel secure, and you don’t have to worry about losing your belongings if you leave them in public places. The UAE also offers many opportunities for career growth.

7. What do you not like about the UAE?
I wouldn’t say I dislike the UAE, but I do struggle with the weather, especially during the summer. The heat and humidity can be exhausting.
8. What are your plans for your career/family/future?
I plan to study or take short courses related to my career to grow and become more professional. This will help me better assist pets, fur parents, and stray animals.
9. Do you have any tips for Kabayans when working/finding work/living in Dubai? Or tips for those OFWs who wish to venture in the same field in UAE?
My advice to my fellow Filipinos is to be kind, help others whenever you can, and volunteer in your community. I would also like to thank my rescue group, which includes many Filipino members who rescue and feed stray cats. These groups, such as Filipino Street Paws, Dubai Cats, Stray Abu Dhabi, Microchipped.ae, Abu Dhabi Rescue Community, and Red Paws, have been instrumental in helping stray animals, pets, and fur parents.
