Established in 1969, Dubai Petroleum began with the first commercial oil export from Fateh field in Dubai. It operates several oil and gas fields in the UAE, and is the oldest company in the hydrocarbon sector.

5. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC)
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is the largest oil company in the UAE; it is also the 12th largest in the world in terms of production. Globally, this company has more than 50,000 employees, stationed in countries across the Gulf region, Europe, North America, and Asia.
Established in 1971, ADNOC is engaged in oil exploration, energy production, refinery, storage, supply, and other services. At present, it operates two oil refineries, in Ruwais and Umm Al Nar. In 2001, EMDAD acquired ISO 19001 certification. The company envisions “to be the leading national integrated service provider for the upstream and downstream segments of the energy sector, providing solutions to local and regional clients.”

7. Crescent Petroleum
Founded in 1971, Crescent Petroleum is headquartered in Sharjah, the nearest emirate to Dubai. It is a subsidiary of the Crescent Group, a family business whose other subsidiary, Crescent Enterprises, is a multinational company.
Interestingly, Crescent Petroleum has earned a number of operational world records. One of these was awarded in 1992, when the company was recognised for having “the deepest short radius horizontal section drilled” and “the deepest slim hole to be cased by expandable casing.” Impressive!
