PH Flag Carrier Ranks 4th in Asia-Pacific for On-Time Flights

Philippine Airlines began 2026 with a strong punctuality record, ranking among the most on-time carriers in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the latest monthly report from aviation analytics firm Cirium.

In Cirium’s January On-Time Performance Report, PAL recorded an on-time arrival rate of 82.02 percent, placing fourth among Asia-Pacific airlines. The ranking positions the Philippine flag carrier alongside some of the region’s most established airlines.

Cirium tracked 99.93 percent of PAL’s 10,956 scheduled flights in January. Of those, 98.91 percent were completed as planned, reflecting strong operational reliability.

Regional standings

January’s top performer was Hainan Airlines, which posted an on-time rate of 86.84 percent. Singapore Airlines followed in second place with 84.14 percent, while Air New Zealand ranked third at 82.16 percent.

PAL’s fourth-place finish placed it ahead of Virgin Australia, which recorded 81.95 percent. Other carriers in the top 10 included Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Qantas, and All Nippon Airways.

Cirium considers a flight on time if it arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival time.

Fewer cancellations in the region

The report also noted an improvement in overall reliability across Asia-Pacific. Flight cancellations dropped to 19,176 in January, down from 23,675 in December 2025. In contrast, North America saw a sharp increase in cancellations, rising by 139 percent during the same period.

Fleet expansion ahead

PAL is expected to strengthen its long-haul network this year as it prepares to receive five Airbus A350-1000 aircraft starting in May. The new aircraft will support expanded trans-Pacific services, particularly to North America.

For travelers, especially overseas Filipinos and business passengers, the ranking signals improved reliability when flying with the Philippine carrier. With fleet expansion underway and completion rates remaining high, PAL appears positioned to maintain strong performance in the months ahead.
