Dubai motorists now have a faster route linking two of the city’s major highways, after the Roads and Transport Authority opened the new 3.5 kilometre Al Rowaiyah Street corridor this week.
The new road directly connects Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, significantly easing access to fast-growing residential and education zones in the area.
According to RTA, the project reduces travel time to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road from around 10 minutes to just four minutes. That is a 60 percent drop in journey time during regular conditions.
Who benefits
The upgraded corridor primarily serves residents and students in:
-
Dubai Silicon Oasis
-
Nadd Hessa
-
Dubai International Academic City
-
Warsan 4
With Dubai Silicon Oasis alone continuing to expand as a residential and tech hub, the improved link is expected to ease daily peak-hour congestion for thousands of commuters.
RTA estimates that more than 80,000 residents will benefit from the enhanced connectivity by 2030 as development in the area continues.
Capacity and safety upgrades
Beyond faster travel, the project increases traffic capacity on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street by up to 40 percent.
One major change includes converting the existing Knowledge and Human Development Authority roundabout into a signalised intersection. The move is designed to improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points, particularly during school hours when vehicle volumes spike.
The development also includes two kilometres of dedicated cycling tracks. This supports Dubai’s wider push toward soft mobility options and healthier commuting alternatives.
Part of broader network expansion
Al Rowaiyah Street forms part of RTA’s ongoing road network upgrades aimed at keeping pace with population growth and urban expansion across the emirate. As more families move into outer communities and academic zones continue to grow, road links between key arterial highways have become critical.
For UAE residents living or working around Dubai Silicon Oasis and surrounding districts, the new corridor means shorter commutes, improved access, and smoother journeys between residential, commercial, and service areas.
Motorists are advised to follow updated road signage in the area as traffic patterns adjust to the new link.
