Travelling isn’t always about the place. It’s mostly about the experience. For visitors who wish to take in a piece of Arab culture on their next trip in the UAE, there’s much to look forward to this year as there will be an upgrade waiting for you on your travel itinerary  here in the UAE.

When we think of Arab culture, we can’t separate the influence of religion to the customs and traditions of people living in countries like the UAE. Even if there’re plenty of places to research about a certain culture (hint: the internet), nothing beats seeing it for yourself and understanding a culture through experience.

Guided Tours at Iconic Mosques in Abu Dhabi Available Soon

Special “immersive” tours to iconic and historical mosques in Abu Dhabi will soon be offered to tourists and residents as a means to promote cultural tourism, as shared in a report by the Khaleej Times.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT-Abu Dhabi) has partnered with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awqaf) to highlight the various stages of development and proliferation of mosques in the city.

As part of the agreement signed by the two entities, they will collaborate to work on providing immersive experiences to tourists and residents at the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed the First, Mariam Umm Eisa, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan the Second, Al Radwan, Al Aziz and Al Kareem mosques. Moreover, the agreement includes the provision of leaflets with information on mosques and Islamic culture, the skills training of tour guides who will banner the programme and the establishment of a mechanism for booking tours through the electronic platforms of DCT Abu Dhabi.

The two entities will also work on the marketing of the books to promote Islamic culture, as well as ethics and tolerance within the community.

A joint committee was developed to monitor the implementation of the provisions of the agreement. The DCT Abu Dhabi will be announcing the timings and schedule of tours of the mosques soon.
