Eid Al Fitr is coming next week and a report from WAM news agency states that UAE Ministry of Labour has declared it as an official paid holiday for all private sector employees in the UAE and these 2 holidays will be on the first and second days of Shawwal.
We previously posted an article about a possible 4-day break for the private sector and now it has been confirmed through a circular issued by Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, in accordance to the provisions of Article 74 of Federal Law No. 08 for the year 1980 regarding the regulation of labour relations.
UAE Eid Al Fitr 2016: 2 Paid Holidays for Private Sector
The 2 days of Shawwal are expected to fall on July 6 and 7 (Wednesday and Thursday). When coupled with the Friday and Saturday weekends, UAE residents working in the private sector may get a 4-day break. But please be advised that these dates are still dependent on the sighting of the moon as we are following the Islamic calendar. Furthermore, we will announce the confirmed dates soon.
5-Day Holiday for Public Sector
As for the public sector, Federal entities will have a 5-day holiday starting July 3 and will resume work on July 10. When coupled with the 2 weekends before and after the 5-day holiday, this will be a total of 9-day break for government employees.
Eid Al Fitr is the day that marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
