A Dubai-based Filipina received the biggest surprise of her life when she realized that her raffle ticket was drawn and announced the big winner of AED 10 million (PHP 142 million) at the Big Ticket Abu Dhabi Series 207 last Tuesday (September 3).
Meanwhile, another lucky Filipino was announced as a winner of AED 50,000 in the same raffle event.
Pinay Based in Dubai Hits Jackpot in Big Ticket Abu Dhabi Series
The Big Ticket 10-million winner, Marelie David, is a Filipina housewife who has been living with her family in Dubai for the last 20 years and has made it a routine to join the raffle each month, sharing her winnings with friends.
Upon learning the big news, David felt overwhelmed as she spoke to the host over a phone call.
David’s lucky ticket number was 172193, which was purchased on August 26.
“This is a big blessing. Timing is perfect because it is going to be December soon,” she told the host of the raffle draw.
Also, David informed the organizers that the winning ticket is shared by 10 people – so each would share AED 1 million, which is roughly around PHP 14.2 million at the current exchange rate.
Furthermore, the homemaker plans to use her winnings to build a house for her 11-year old son, and to help build a church in her hometown.
David hails from Pasig City, a suburb of Manila.
In response to her big prize, David told the press: “Keep on trying, keep your faith, and maybe God will do something and you will win soon!”
At first, David could not believe that she just became a millionaire, and thought that she was being pranked by her friends. She told the host, “I think you are not teasing me because people call and tease about such prizes.”
What is Big Ticket?
The Big Ticket Abu Dhabi Duty Free Live Draw is a monthly event held at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. The event has been observed since 1992.
Presently, Big Ticket is the largest and longest-running raffle draw event in the UAE, giving away millions of cash prizes as well as luxury cars to lucky winners.
