MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested a 21-year-old Russian vlogger, Nikita Chekhov, for creating and sharing videos in which he threatened to intentionally spread the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) while in the country. The vlogger was taken into custody from a condominium in Quezon City.
Authorities have issued a strong warning to foreigners and social media users who spread misinformation or make threats online. The Philippine government has made it clear that anyone inciting panic, spreading falsehoods, or disrespecting the country and its people will face strict legal actions, including arrest, detention, and deportation.

Viral Videos Spark Public Fear
Chekhov arrived in the Philippines on January 15 as a tourist. Shortly after, he uploaded videos filmed in the Bonifacio High Street area of Taguig City. In these clips, which quickly went viral, he made alarming claims about his intent to spread HIV. The content, widely believed to be “rage bait” designed to provoke strong reactions, caused significant concern and fear among the public and online communities.
Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado confirmed the arrest and condemned the vlogger’s actions. He stated that such videos irresponsibly generate panic. Chekhov, who is from Taganrog, Rostov Oblast in Russia, had traveled to the Philippines from Shanghai, China.
Authorities Take a Firm Stance
The BI has made its position clear on foreign nationals causing public alarm. “Foreign nationals who come to the Philippines to spread alarm, disrespect our people, or abuse our hospitality are not welcome and will face deportation,” Commissioner Viado announced.
This incident is part of a recent trend of foreign social media personalities facing legal consequences for their behavior in the Philippines. It follows the deportation of another Russian vlogger, Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, for undesirable acts and the arrest of Estonian YouTuber Siim Roosipuu, who was declared persona non grata in Dumaguete City for disrespectful content involving minors.
Deportation Proceedings Underway
Nikita Chekhov is currently being held at the Bureau of Immigration’s detention facility. He will undergo deportation proceedings for his undesirable acts. The swift action by Philippine authorities underscores their commitment to holding visitors accountable for their conduct and ensuring public safety is not compromised by irresponsible online behavior.
