Tragic Deaths Prompt Swift Action
The incident, which occurred in the Wilayat of Suwaiq, resulted in the deaths of an expatriate woman and an Omani citizen. The Royal Oman Police reported that the woman passed away on Monday, while the Omani man died in a hospital on Wednesday after being in critical condition for two days. Several other members of the Omani man’s family were also poisoned but have since recovered.
Investigations quickly identified the source of the poisoning. The victims had consumed bottled water from the Iranian brand Uranus Star. In response, the Royal Oman Police, in co-ordination with other authorities, collected samples of the water for analysis.
Contamination Confirmed, Public Warned
Laboratory tests confirmed that the Uranus Star bottled water was contaminated with harmful substances. Following this confirmation, authorities issued an urgent public warning, advising all citizens and residents to avoid drinking any water from this brand. A spokesperson for the Royal Oman Police emphasized the danger, urging anyone who has the product to dispose of it immediately.
To safeguard public health, Omani officials have initiated a comprehensive withdrawal of all Uranus Star products from store shelves across the country. This measure is part of an ongoing investigation to understand the full scope of the contamination. The ban on all bottled water imports from Iran will remain in effect as a precautionary measure while the inquiry continues.
This incident serves as a serious reminder for consumers to remain vigilant about the products they purchase. Authorities are encouraging the public to stay informed through official channels and report any suspicious products to ensure community safety.
