Penalties Drivers Should Know

Drivers caught breaking these rules may face multiple penalties at once:

Fine: Dh1,000
Black points: 12 points
Vehicle impoundment: 30 days

These penalties follow Article 73 under Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 on traffic rules.

This means one violation can affect both your wallet and your driving record.

Why the UAE Is Strict on This

The government says loud vehicles can:

  • Disturb communities and families
  • Cause stress and discomfort
  • Affect overall road safety

Illegal modifications can also make vehicles unsafe. Some changes may impact braking, balance, or engine performance.

Authorities want to prevent accidents before they happen.

Who Is Affected

This rule applies to:

All drivers in the UAE
Car owners who modify vehicles
Young drivers and car enthusiasts
Expats and OFWs using private cars

Even visitors driving in the UAE must follow these rules.

What Drivers Should Do Now

To avoid penalties:

  • Keep your vehicle in standard condition
  • Avoid installing loud exhaust systems
  • Check if any modification is approved
  • Follow all UAE traffic laws

If you already modified your car, it is best to review if it meets legal standards.
