A decade of sacrifice in Dubai
OFW Maulion spent 10 years in Dubai working as a cleaner, sending money home to support her family in the Philippines.
As a single mother, she carried the full responsibility of providing for her loved ones. Despite earning a modest income, she stayed committed to her goal of giving her family a better life.
Surviving the hardest years abroad
Her journey was not easy.
Maulion recalled going through months without salary during the COVID-19 pandemic, a challenge many OFWs faced during global lockdowns.
Still, she continued to push through, driven by her duty to support her children and family back home.
Job loss leads to difficult decision
Recently, Maulion lost her job, forcing her to make a life-changing decision.
With no stable income and limited options, she reached out for help. Like many displaced OFWs, returning home became the most practical choice.
Government steps in with repatriation support
Through the help of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Philippine government, Maulion was included in a repatriation program.
These programs aim to assist OFWs who lost jobs or were affected by crises abroad. Support may include:
- Flight assistance back to the Philippines
- Temporary aid upon arrival
- Reintegration programs for livelihood
Maulion expressed deep gratitude for the quick response to her request for help.
A fresh start back home
Although she values her time in Dubai, Maulion believes this is the right time to end her journey abroad.
She now looks forward to rebuilding her life in the Philippines and focusing on her family after years of separation.
