Abu Dhabi City Municipality is expanding and reinforcing designated barbecue areas across public parks, giving families and outdoor enthusiasts more safe and well-equipped spaces to enjoy weekend grilling and picnics.
The initiative forms part of the municipality’s wider push to improve quality of life while protecting public facilities and the environment. Residents are being reminded to barbecue only in approved locations, where facilities are designed to support safe use without damaging green spaces.

More parks equipped for barbecuing
Across Abu Dhabi Island, a growing number of parks now feature dedicated barbecue zones fitted with concrete grilling platforms, charcoal disposal containers, and waste bins. These include Family Park A and B, Al Nawfal Park, Al Boom Park, Formal Park, Heritage Parks 4 and 5, parks along Arabian Gulf Street, Dolphin Park, Old Airport Park, Al Zafranah Park, Al Nozha Park, and Al Muzoon Park at Al Qurm Beach.
On the mainland, barbecue facilities are also available in Al Fan Park, Al Jouri Park, Al Arjan Park, Rabdan Park, Al Rahba Square, Al Wathba Park, Al Khatm Park, Al Barjeel Park, Al Kadi Park, Al Bayraq Park, Al Fanoos Park, Al Shamkha Square, and Al Salmiya Park, which accommodates recreational vehicles.
Municipal officials said these locations were selected to meet demand across different neighborhoods while ensuring safety and accessibility for families planning day-long outdoor activities.
Focus on safety, cleanliness, and sustainability
The expansion supports the municipality’s ongoing awareness campaign, “Darna, Our Responsibility,” which promotes responsible use of public parks and recreational facilities. The campaign encourages visitors to follow barbecue guidelines, dispose of waste properly, and respect shared spaces.
Officials stressed that improper disposal of charcoal and food waste can damage lawns, trees, and park infrastructure. To address this, barbecue areas are fitted with concrete containers specifically for used charcoal, reducing fire risks and environmental harm.
Field teams have been deployed across parks to engage directly with visitors, offer guidance, and reinforce good practices. The municipality has also continued sharing reminders through its official communication channels to reach residents ahead of busy weekends and holidays.
Designed for relaxed weekends outdoors
According to the municipality, the expansion of barbecue-ready parks reflects a balance between leisure and responsibility. By concentrating grilling activities in designated areas, authorities aim to keep parks clean, safe, and visually appealing for all users.
For residents who enjoy firing up the grill on days off, the message is clear: Abu Dhabi’s parks are ready for barbecues—but only in the right places. Using approved facilities helps ensure that everyone can continue enjoying outdoor gatherings in well-maintained, family-friendly environments.
