UAE-Based OFW’s Song Reaches 2 Million Streams on Spotify

In an interview with the National, the 25-year-old Cebuano shared: “I was so amazed, and I can say that I’m being blessed for all the hard work. It attracted three major labels, and I’m always thankful for all the people who made this song a blast.”

Talking about his hit song, ‘Bisayang Gwapito’, Pepito said that the song features famous Visayan memes in its verses. He added that the woman behind the song is his fiance, who has been his inspiration towards becoming “a better man.”

Pepito penned the song describing a man trying to keep his lover’s affection, not by wealth, but with pure charm. “It is about making Bisaya men proud of their own beauty,” he explained.

Because of the song’s massive success, many influencers and netizens have used it in their vlogs, Tiktok videos, and tweets, he proudly shared.

Music Has Always Been A Passion

According to Pepito, he has always been inclined to music growing up, adding that he has been creating music as early as 17 years old.

When I was young, music was my way to escape reality. I’ve been a vocalist of a few in high-school and college. And when I got here in UAE, I really thought that it was the end of my music career since I’m too busy for work,” he shared.

But it never stopped me from writing. This time, I’m doing my best to balance my music and work,” Pepito explained.

Pepito said that while he always dreamt of excelling in music, he also understands the importance of being financially stable amid this period—a reason he still thrives in his job as a sales manager.

And while working, he kept on writing songs to entertain people who are mostly staying home during this time.

During this pandemic, some people are just at home listening to different genres of music whenever they want to. It’s a good time for music artists like me to write inspirational and relatable songs for them to listen to,” Pepito said.

With his new achievement, Pepito also bared that he has exclusively signed with The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music. This record label will help him promote his songs globally.

Although it’s too early to tell how his career in music will unfold, Pepito asked for the support of his listeners to watch out for his upcoming track to be released on Spotify on September 17, titled “Magikero”—hoping they would support it the way they supported ‘Bisayang Gwapito’.
