The ‘wild animal’ seen in a suburban neighbourhood in a viral video on social media was reportedly a pet cat, according to Dubai Police on Thursday.
After two days of searching, the police department confirmed in a statement that the wild animal was not a jaguar, as previously believed, but a black house cat.
Dubai Police Sheds Light on ‘Jaguar on the Loose’ Situation
The Dubai Police arrived at this conclusion after conducting an extensive search and consulting with animal tracking experts, the Gulf News reported.
Residents of the Springs community were warned to be cautious after a video of a black cat circulated on social media groups.
The Dubai Police reassured people that they investigated the animal in the video and discovered it was a black house cat, not a jaguar.
Until the information was checked, Dubai Police took the required precautions to ensure the security and safety of the residents of the Springs district.

The Dubai Police said it has taken all precautions to ensure the safety of the area’s residents and advised the public to be cautious when posting information on social media, as this could lead to the spread of misinformation and fear within the community.
