OFW Interview: Kim Ambrocio, Digital Marketing Executive in Dubai
Name: Kim Ambrocio
Nicknames: Kim
Age: 24 years old
Current Profession: Digital Marketing Executive
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Communication
Years in Dubai: 1 year and 7 months
1. Tell us about yourself.
Hi! My name is Kim Ambrocio. I am 24 years old, and currently working as a Digital Marketing Executive. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and have been based in Dubai for 1 year and 7 months. With a strong background in multimedia production and design, I’ve developed the skills to craft impactful campaigns that captivate and inspire audiences.
Since joining my current role, I’ve played an integral part in strengthening the property’s digital presence through innovative strategies and visually striking content that resonates with both local and international guests. One of my achievements so far is being featured on Hozpitality.com, recognizing my contribution to the industry.
2. Why did you come to Dubai?
It has always been my dream to work abroad and gain international experience. During my final year in college, I had the opportunity to do an internship, and I chose to take the risk of going abroad — even though it meant my parents had to shoulder all the expenses.
I decided to come to Dubai because I saw great potential for growth here. The city’s dynamic and innovative approach to marketing aligns perfectly with my skills in media and digital strategies. I wanted to be part of that vision and contribute to Dubai’s ever-evolving marketing landscape.

3. What were your previous jobs?
Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton DIFC, I worked as a Cluster Content Creator for Accor Hotels. In that role, I was responsible for managing visual storytelling for three properties in Dubai: Aparthotel Adagio, Mercure Hotel, and Ibis Styles Dubai Deira. My work focused on creating engaging content that highlighted the unique features of each property and enhanced their digital presence.
4. How do you find your current job? Are you happy/satisfied with it?
Back in college, I worked as a freelance photographer, videographer, and graphic artist. I handled various events to support myself financially because I didn’t want to rely on my parents. Over time, I built strong connections and established my profile in my city.
When I decided to move to Dubai, I knew it was a big risk because I had to leave everything behind and start from zero. I began my journey here as a Marketing Intern for 9 months. During that time, I wasn’t focused on salary; my main goal was to gain exposure, build connections, and understand the Dubai market.
Today, I’m really happy and productive in my current role as a Digital Marketing Executive at The Ritz-Carlton DIFC. I owe a lot to my Director of Marketing, Mr. Alain Aboukhater, who has been a great mentor and always supports and uplifts the team, as well as our General Manager, Mr. Christian El Khoury, who constantly encourages and values the marketing team. Their leadership has helped me grow both personally and professionally.

5. Is it difficult to live in Dubai? What are/were your struggles? What’s life like outside work?
When I first started, it was quite overwhelming because I left the Philippines at a very young age. After my internship in Dubai, I only went home to attend my graduation and came back immediately — I didn’t even take a break after finishing college.
One of my biggest struggles in the beginning was communication with people from different nationalities. Dubai is a very diverse city, and that experience taught me so much. I still believe education is very important, but it’s true what they say: experience is the best teacher beyond the four corners of the classroom. Living here humbles you because you meet people with different cultures, perspectives, and life stories.
As I adjusted and adapted, I learned an important lesson: choose your circle wisely, because the people you surround yourself with will influence you. Fortunately, I’m happy with my life outside of work because I’m surrounded by empowered and positive individuals who inspire me every day.
6. What do you like about the UAE?
What I really like about Dubai is the broad range of opportunities it offers. This city values talent and hard work — you can truly see your worth here. The more skills and experience you gain, the better your life becomes. Dubai is a place where growth is possible if you’re determined and passionate about what you do.
7. What do you NOT like about Dubai?
One of the biggest challenges in Dubai is the high level of career competition, as it attracts so many talented professionals. But I see this as a positive factor because it pushes me to continuously improve, innovate, and grow in my field.

8. What are your plans for your career/family/future?
My plan for my career is to continue mastering the marketing field within the hospitality industry and build a strong professional reputation here in Dubai. One of my long-term goals is to bring my family here so they can experience the beauty and opportunities that this city offers. For now, I’m focused on growing in my profession and expanding my horizons through new experiences.
9. Do you have any tips for Kabayans when working/finding work/living in Dubai? Or tips for those OFWs who wish to venture in the same field in the UAE?
Dubai offers great opportunities for career growth, but you need to be strong emotionally and physically because there will be times when you feel alone — and that’s okay. My advice is to stay focused on your goals and trust the process. When I moved here, it was a big risk, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. For those who want to venture into marketing or the hospitality field, keep building your skills, be open to learning, and don’t be afraid to start small — every step counts toward your success.
I want to thank my uncle, Mr. Chaps Peria, Senior Graphic Artist at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, for taking the risk with me and bringing me to Dubai because he believed in my capabilities. I also want to thank the Lacano family for being my second family here in the UAE and for supporting me during my first days of homesickness.
Most importantly, I’m grateful to my parents, Arlene and Nicanor Ambrocio, who took the risk of sending me abroad even when we didn’t have much. Their unwavering support made this journey possible. And to my brothers, Kier and Kelvin Ambrocio, thank you for always being my source of strength and motivation.
Above all, I thank God for blessing me with the skills, opportunities, and strong personality that helped me overcome challenges and continue striving toward my dreams.
