Just last month, Will Smith and his family were in Dubai having the time of their lives. Today, another major Hollywood star is in the UAE… Mr. Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds! Yay!
Reynolds, along with award-winning director Michael Bay, will be in the country for 30 days to shoot “6 Underground,” a new action movie, Arabian Business reported. They will be shooting at several locations, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and the Liwa desert.
Hollywood Star Filming a Movie in the Emirates
In case you were wondering, 6 Underground is an action thriller created by the writers of Deadpool, which also starred Reynolds. The Hollywood actor is also known for Safe House, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Green Lantern, The Proposal, and many other blockbuster movies.
Meanwhile, Michael Bay is known for directing fantastic films, including Armageddon, Bad Boys, The Rock, and the Transformers movie franchise.
Here’s what we know about their latest movie shoot in the UAE:
- 6 Underground is the latest Hollywood movie to select Abu Dhabi as a location.
- More than 300 cast and crew members are taking part in the production.
- The team is working with twofour54, which provides accommodation, transportation, location assistance, and other services.
- The film marks the return to Abu Dhabi of Netflix, which produced War Machine (starring Brad Pitt) in the emirate three years ago.
Notably, the movie also benefits from a 30 percent rebate on production, which was introduced by the Abu Dhabi Film Commision (ADFC) in 2013. Since then, more than 60 productions from Bollywood, Hollywood, and other major companies have been shot in Abu Dhabi.
A Unique Place to Shoot a Film
“We are proud to welcome high-profile industry leaders Ryan Reynolds and Michael Bay,” stated Maryam Eid AlMheiri, CEO of Media Zone Authority – Abu Dhabi and twofour54. “We are also pleased to work alongside our partner Netflix in Abu Dhabi again.”
Meanwhile, Bay described Abu Dhabi as a unique place to shoot a film. “It’s got the diversity and architecture I need in front of the camera – plus the professional facilities, crew, and infrastructure to back it up. I’m very excited to be shooting here over the next few weeks,” he said.
“Shooting in Abu Dhabi is going to be one of the highlights of this production, although you’ll have to wait until the movie hits Netflix to find out why,” Reynolds shared. “We’ve only been here a few days so far, but the welcome from everyone has been amazing and I can’t wait to explore Abu Dhabi more.”
Well, we can’t wait to see your new movie, Ryan Reynolds! We hope you enjoy your month-long stay in the UAE! Speaking of which, we recommend that you and your team check out these amazing places to visit and exciting things to do in Abu Dhabi!
