His Highness Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated Al Nasr Mosque in Al Dhaid on Tuesday evening, marking a new addition to the emirate’s religious and community landmarks.
Located in the Jabal Omar area, the mosque spans more than 7,800 square metres and features a contemporary architectural design that blends Islamic symbolism with modern engineering. Officials said the structure reflects Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to develop mosques that serve both spiritual and community needs.

Striking Dome and Modern Minaret
During the tour, His Highness was briefed on the mosque’s standout feature, a large spherical glass dome measuring 20 metres in diameter and 16 metres in height. The dome is built with a geometric mesh structure made of graduated hexagonal units designed to reflect light dynamically throughout the day.
The mosque also features a 38 metre tall minaret designed in a sculptural style with flowing lines that visually complement the dome, creating a unified and modern identity.
Capacity and Facilities
Al Nasr Mosque can accommodate a total of 1,325 worshippers. The main prayer hall holds 470 male worshippers, while the external courtyard can serve 140. An additional outdoor prayer area allows space for 570 worshippers.
The women’s prayer hall has a capacity of 145, ensuring dedicated space for female worshippers.
Integrated Community Services
Beyond prayer areas, the mosque includes ablution facilities and restrooms for men and women, mortuary washing facilities, a water station, an imam’s residence, a public reading library, and parking areas. These features aim to provide a comfortable and safe environment for residents of Al Dhaid and nearby communities.
Following the inauguration, His Highness performed the Maghrib prayer at the mosque. Dr Salem Al Dobi then delivered a lecture highlighting the virtues of building mosques and their historical role as centres of worship, learning, and community unity.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Faisal bin Ali Al Mualla, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, and Dr Issa Saif bin Hanzal, along with local residents.
For Al Dhaid residents, the new mosque now serves as both a place of worship and a community hub for years to come.
