Government employees in the UAE are likely to enjoy a 5-day holiday (including the weekend) in celebration of the 44th National Day in December.
Tentative Number of Holidays
Public Sector – 5 Days
Private Sector – 4 Days
The President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued a decree declaring November 30, 2015 as Martyr’s Day.
UAE Public Sector
If we consider Article 100 of the Council of Ministers Act No. 13 of 2012, it stipulates that any official holiday falling in between 2 working days can be moved to either the beginning or the end of the week, holidays for government employees could commence from Tuesday, December 1 until Saturday, December 5.
With the decree, government employees will enjoy their holidays beginning Monday, November 30 until Wednesday, December 2, National Day which totals to five days.
UAE Private Sector
Private sector employees in the UAE possibly could enjoy two days holiday which is the Martyr’s Day (November 30) and the National Day (December 2).
However, the private sector holidays could be grouped starting December 2 until the weekend making it a four-day holiday break.
In the recent past, private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates have enjoyed a 2-day National Day break and this is also likely to happen this year according to media reports.
Schools in the UAE are temporarily suspended for two days to make way for the National Day.
