SHARJAH: Drivers between Sharjah and Dubai may soon see smoother travel as new direct road links are being developed between the two emirates.
H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, announced road projects worth AED750 million.
The projects include internal and main roads that will connect Sharjah more directly to Dubai.

Al Taawun Monument Will Return
One major project is the tunnel under Al Taawun Roundabout.
The Al Taawun Roundabout Monument was recently removed to make way for the tunnel works.
Sheikh Dr Sultan said the monument has strong emotional value for residents.
He explained that it was only removed for a short period because the project needed space.
The plan is to return the monument to its original location once the road project is finished.
Engineers found that the monument’s foundations were fixed deeply in the ground.
Because of this, specialists studied how the road could be built while still bringing the monument back later.
New Tunnel to Ease Traffic Flow
The tunnel under Al Taawun Roundabout will have a dual carriageway leading toward Dubai.
It will extend toward Al Nahda Bridge.
This road is expected to ease pressure on current routes used by motorists travelling between Sharjah and Dubai.
The project will also help reduce pressure on Al Taawun Roundabout itself.
The Sharjah Ruler said the new connection will help open an important corridor between the two emirates.
Al Noor Road Set to Open This Year
Another key route is Al Noor Road.
This road will extend from Al Orooba Street and lead directly toward Dubai through Al Nahda Bridge.
Sheikh Dr Sultan said Al Noor Road is scheduled to open by the end of 2026.
This gives residents another travel option, especially during busy hours.
Better Access to Expo Centre Sharjah
The new road works will also improve access to Expo Centre Sharjah.
Directional signs will be placed along the roads to guide drivers.
The route will give motorists direct access to the centre’s parking areas without unnecessary stops.
The project will also connect with major roads, including Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road.
Sharjah Opens More Routes to Neighbors
Sheikh Dr Sultan said Sharjah welcomes its neighbors and visitors.
He said the projects will give Sharjah a new level of openness while keeping memories like the Al Taawun Monument alive.
For residents, the main hope is simple: less traffic, easier movement, and better road access between Sharjah and Dubai.
