DUBAI: Dubai motorists are being reminded to follow traffic rules after Dubai Police introduced advanced artificial intelligence radar systems across major roads and intersections.
These smart radars do more than catch speeding. They can detect several dangerous driving habits, including red-light violations, sudden swerving, mobile phone use, seat belt violations, illegal tinting, noisy vehicles, and expired registration.

Speeding Still Carries the Heaviest Road Penalties
Speeding remains one of the main violations detected by Dubai’s AI radars.
Drivers who exceed the speed limit by more than 80 km/h may face a Dh3,000 fine, 23 black points, and 60 days of vehicle impoundment for light vehicles.
Those who exceed the limit by more than 60 km/h may face a Dh2,000 fine, 12 black points, and 30 days of impoundment.
Lower speeding violations also carry fines, starting from Dh300 for exceeding the limit by no more than 20 km/h.
Red-Light Jumping Can Become Very Costly
Running a red light is one of the most serious offences.
Under UAE traffic rules, a driver who jumps a red light may face a Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points, and 30 days of vehicle impoundment.
In Dubai, releasing a vehicle impounded for a red-light violation may require a Dh50,000 payment under Decree No. 30 of 2023.
Phone Use, Seat Belts, and Lane Discipline Are Also Monitored
The AI radar system can detect phone use while driving by identifying hand movements and phone screen lights.
Using a mobile phone while driving may lead to a Dh800 fine, 4 black points, and a possible 30-day vehicle impoundment.
Drivers and passengers should also wear seat belts. Not wearing a seat belt carries a Dh400 fine and 4 black points.
The radars can also catch lane discipline violations, including crossing solid lines, sudden swerving, driving on the hard shoulder, and tailgating. Failure to stay in the proper lane may lead to a Dh400 fine.
Tinting, Noise, and Expired Registration Are Included
Illegal window tinting may also be detected. UAE rules allow up to 50 percent tinting on side and rear windows, while the windshield must remain clear. Violations may lead to a Dh1,500 fine, and in Dubai, a vehicle release fee may apply if the car is impounded.
Noisy or illegally modified vehicles may face a Dh2,000 fine, 12 black points, and a release fee of up to Dh10,000.
Driving with expired vehicle registration may lead to a Dh500 fine, 4 black points, and 7 days of vehicle impoundment.
What Drivers Should Know Right Now
Dubai’s AI radars make traffic monitoring more detailed. Drivers should avoid phone use, follow speed limits, wear seat belts, keep proper distance, renew registration on time, and check tinting rules before driving. For everyday motorists, safe driving is now the best way to avoid costly penalties.
