Most, if not all, people in Dubai are aware of Expo 2020 Dubai, a major event that will take place from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021. This six-month long period will feature innovations, products, and trade exhibits in a massive, spectacular site on the edge of Dubai.
But what happens after April 2021? The answer to this question will be revealed next week. Expo organizers will announce future plans for the site in the upcoming CityScape Global 2017, which will be held from September 11th to 13th at the Dubai World Trade Center.
Future Plans for Expo 2020 Dubai to be Revealed
Ever since Dubai won the bid to host the 2020 World Expo, organizers have also thought of long-term plans for the site. However, they have yet to reveal the vision, plans, and details to the public. Fortunately, next week’s event will be the perfect opportunity to do so.
“The question that everybody has asked me when I have been speaking about the Expo has been — So, what happens after Expo 2020’s doors close in April 2021?” shared Marjan Faraidooni, Senior Vice President of Legacy Impact and Development at Expo 2020 Dubai.
“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, set us two main tasks after we won the right to stage the 2020 World Expo back in 2013 – deliver an expo that will amaze the world while leaving a meaningful and impactful legacy,” she explained.
Indeed, the Ruler of Dubai has been extremely supportive from the very start. In fact, HH Sheikh Mohammed visited the Expo 2020 Dubai site just last month.
Learning Lessons from Previous Expos
“We have learned a great deal from the highs and lows of previous World Expos, from the very beginning in London in 1851 to those of recent decades,” Faraidooni stated. “It was very clear that what happens after an expo is as important as what happens during the six months’ duration itself.”
“Expo 2020 Dubai is an Expo for our whole region, and we see it as an opportunity for people near and far to benefit from the innovations and ingenuity that will be integral to its success,” she added.
The overall theme for Expo 2020 Dubai is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” with the aim of fostering global collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Notably, it will be the first World Expo that will be held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region.
Event preparations are certainly getting more exciting, and we can’t wait to hear more about future plans next week! In the meantime, check out these images and video of Expo 2020 Dubai, so you can have a better idea of how the site will eventually look like.
