DUBAI: UAE residents may want to check their daily routines before June begins. Several rule changes are set to take effect from June 1, 2026, covering Dubai parking, Salik tolls, salary payments, cashless parking, and the legal age of adulthood.

Parking and Salik Will Cost Slightly More
Dubai drivers should expect a small increase in parking and toll costs. Parkin will apply 5% Value Added Tax to its parking services from June 1. The VAT will cover on-street parking, off-street parking, seasonal cards, parking permits, and reservation services. Overnight parking from 1am to 6am will remain free, according to Parkin’s advisory reported by Gulf News.
Salik will also apply 5% VAT to toll gate usage charges and tag activation fees starting June 1. The tax-inclusive amount will be deducted from the driver’s prepaid Salik account, so motorists should monitor their balance more closely.
Parking Meters Are Going Cashless
Dubai parking meters will also stop accepting cash payments from June 1. This means drivers can no longer use coins or paper money at physical meters. Payment options will include nol cards, the Parkin app, SMS parking, Dubai Now, and the RTA app.
For residents who still rely on coins, the practical move is to set up at least one digital payment option before parking.
Private Sector Paydays Get a Stricter Deadline
Private sector workers should also note the new Wage Protection System rule. From June 1, salaries for the previous month must be paid on the first day of the next Gregorian month. Any payment made after that date may be considered delayed under the system.
Employers must process wages through WPS or another MoHRE-approved payment channel. The rule is meant to make salary payments more timely and easier to track.
Legal Adulthood Moves to 18
Another major change is the UAE’s new Civil Transactions Law. Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025 takes effect on June 1, 2026. One key update lowers the age of majority from 21 lunar years to 18 Gregorian years.
This gives 18-year-olds fuller civil legal capacity, including more independence in contracts and financial matters. However, legal safeguards will still apply in specific cases.
