The 42-year-old Egyptian man was reported to the Dubai police for verbally abusing the cleaning staff and security guards at the hotel he was staying in.
UAE Expat Who Violated Ramadan Rules, Chokes Cop During Arrest
An Emirati cop testified against the Egyptian man and told the prosecution that it was around 10 am when he arrived at the scene upon reports from the hotel staff that the defendant had been verbally abusing the cleaning staff and security guards at the hotel, the Gulf News reported.
The Emirati policemen continued, “I found him walking outside the residence with a cup of coffee in his hand.”
“My colleague and I asked him to come to the police station, but he ignored the request and offered me some coffee.”
The three men walked towards the police patrol that was parked in the basement but the defendant insisted on going up to his apartment.
“While in the lift, the accused hit me and tried to choke me. When the lift opened, he fell on me,” the police officer told the prosecution.
At that point, the defendant had to be restrained and was taken away by the police. In line with this, the Dubai Public Prosecution charged the defendant with assaulting a police officer and drinking publicly during Ramadan.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 27.
