No Need to Exit UAE to Change Visa Status

UAE visit visa status holders no longer need to exit the UAE in order to change their visas to residency permits. If you find employment, you can change the status to your company’s work residence permit electronically which makes it more convenient.

No Need for UAE Visa Runs to Change to Residency Status

Brigadier Dr Rashid Sultan Al Kadhar, spokesperson for the UAE Ministry of Interior, told Gulf News in a report: “Customers will be able to amend the status of their entry permits electronically through a few quick and user-friendly steps. As a result, visitors will not need to leave the country, instead updating their visa status and paying all the necessary fees while in the UAE.

This is good news because the usual process is that people have to Exit the UAE in order to come back and update their visa status to a work visa. The new system makes it more convenient as it will enable the person to change their visa status while in the UAE.

NOTE: We previously shared an article mentioning that you could extend your visit visa for a month without the need to leave the country. We have referenced other news sources as well as chatted with a rep from MOI about this matter – but this is not the case. We apologize for the confusion. This post update mentions that people of all nationalities that they can transfer their visit visa to a residency visa without the need to leave the country.

Regardless of the update, it would still be best to contact the Ministry of Interior for any information regarding your situation. Contacting the authorities is the best situation to verify any news. You can visit the MOI government website for more info here – moi.gov.ae
