SHARJAH: Kalba is preparing for a major transformation this December as several new development projects are set to open in the coastal city.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, confirmed that landmark projects in Kalba will be inaugurated before the end of 2026. These include new roads, lakes, rest areas, historic districts, and family-friendly public spaces.

Seven Years of Work Now Reaching a Key Moment
The development push in Kalba started after a commitment made to residents on April 14, 2019. Since then, construction and improvement works have continued for seven years.
Sheikh Sultan said the city has seen many completed projects, with more openings planned in December. One of the key sites is Jabel Deem, which will feature roads, landscaping, and rest areas.
For residents, this means better access, improved public areas, and more places for families to enjoy.
Lakes, Corniche, and New Roads on the List
Among the projects expected to open are Al Hayar, which includes a rest area and a lake. The Wadi Al Helo roads, compensation buildings, and the corniche are also part of the December openings.
Road infrastructure is also being improved. A new road will run parallel to Al Wahda Street, connecting the area behind Kalba University to the city wall. Another road will link the corniche to the ring road.
These road projects are expected to make movement around the city easier for residents, workers, and visitors.
Khor Kalba City Adds a Historic Touch
A major part of the transformation is Khor Kalba City, a heritage-focused destination located behind Kalba University and extending toward the sea.
Old homes in the area have been turned into hotel-style rental lodges. Restored forts and mosques will also be included, with the area shaped around Kalba’s archaeological and historical value.
The district will be enclosed by a protective wall, giving it a clear heritage identity.
A Family Park With Waterfalls and Walking Areas
Another major project is Al Furaish Lake, located behind Al Murash Square. The lake stretches around 750 metres and is being developed as a leisure space for families.
The area will include trees, mountain landscaping, waterfalls flowing toward the sea, parking areas, and spaces where people can walk and relax.
Sheikh Sultan compared the project to Al Rafisah Dam, which is already known as a popular family destination.
More Projects Expected After December
The December openings are not the end of Kalba’s development plan. Sheikh Sultan said more projects will follow, including improved services such as sewage systems and rainwater drainage.
For residents and visitors, the key message is clear: Kalba is becoming easier to reach, more family-friendly, and more ready for tourism and community life.
