New Roads, Schools, Clinics Abu Dhabi’s AED55B Plan

ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi has announced a new pipeline of 24 public private partnership projects worth AED55 billion, covering roads, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and community facilities.

The projects were revealed by Eid Alobeidli, Director of Musataha and Public Private Partnerships at the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, or ADIO. The programme is being carried out with the Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre, or ADPIC.

For residents and expats, this is awareness news for now. It does not require immediate action from the public. But it signals major development work across Abu Dhabi in the coming years.

Roads Take the Biggest Share

The transport portion has the largest budget in the new plan.

Around AED35 billion will go to 11 major road projects. These will cover more than 300 kilometres of new roads. Existing roads, tunnels, intersections, and wider road networks will also be upgraded.

This matters because road projects often affect how people move around the city. Once detailed routes and timelines are released, residents may need to watch for traffic changes, diversions, or new travel options.

Flood Control and Water Systems Included

Another AED11 billion has been set aside for five infrastructure projects.

These include dams, water storage systems, flood control, stormwater drainage upgrades, and urban landscaping works.

These types of projects are important for city safety and long term planning. They also support Abu Dhabi’s efforts to prepare for future growth and changing weather conditions.

Schools, Health, and Sports Facilities Also Planned

The remaining AED9 billion will support social infrastructure projects.

These include sports facilities, specialist healthcare assets, schools, and universities. The goal is to improve quality of life and provide more sustainable community facilities backed by the government.

For Filipino families and other expat households in Abu Dhabi, this could mean better access to public services and community spaces in the future, depending on where the projects are built.

Private Sector to Help Deliver the Projects

The PPP model allows the government and private companies to work together on major projects.

According to Alobeidli, the new pipeline is designed to attract local and international investors. It is also expected to support the Abu Dhabi Local Content programme, strengthen supply chains, and help the emirate’s industrial base.

ADIO said it has already delivered PPP projects worth about AED2.4 billion. Another AED25 billion in projects launched in 2025 are now in advanced structuring and procurement stages.
