DUBAI: One worker died and 19 others were injured after a truck crashed into a workers’ bus on Al Yalayis Street in Dubai.

The accident happened near Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Bridge, heading towards Emirates Road. Dubai Police said the bus had suddenly stopped in the middle of the road because of a technical malfunction before it was hit from behind by a truck.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said early investigations showed that the truck driver failed to pay attention and did not keep a safe distance.

Injury Count Shows Serious Impact

Dubai Police confirmed that one person died in the crash. Among the 19 injured, eight were in critical condition, two had moderate injuries, and nine had minor injuries.

All injured people were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police patrols and accident investigation teams went to the scene right away. Their work included securing the area, controlling traffic, supporting rescue operations, and diverting vehicles to other routes to reduce road congestion.

Why the Bus Stopped Suddenly

According to police, the workers’ bus stopped because of a technical problem. Authorities used the incident to remind motorists that stopping in the middle of the road is very dangerous, especially on fast-moving roads.

Dubai Police said this can happen because of vehicle breakdowns, tyre damage, or fuel shortages. However, police warned that stopping in the middle of traffic can lead to deadly crashes and serious injuries.

Brigadier Bin Suwaidan said this kind of violation is one of the major causes of serious road accidents in Dubai.

Fines Drivers Should Know

Under UAE traffic rules, stopping in the middle of the road carries a fine of AED 1,000 and six black points.

Drivers who obstruct traffic may also face a AED 500 fine under Article 98.

Dubai Police urged motorists to check their vehicles before travelling. This includes checking tyres, fuel, brakes, and other important parts, especially before long trips or work-related transport.

What To Do During a Breakdown

Dubai Police advised drivers not to panic during a breakdown or accident. If a vehicle cannot be moved safely, drivers should contact police immediately.

Motorists should also switch on hazard lights, place a warning triangle behind the vehicle when possible, move passengers away from the road, and stay in a safe area while waiting for help.
