Dubai among World’s Best Cities for Architecture Lovers

Dubai is among “The World’s 20 Best Cities for Architecture Lovers,” which was released recently by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. The prestigious list puts the emirate alongside Athens, Barcelona, Rome, Seattle, Miami, and other cities that feature fascinating architecture.

The international magazine described Dubai as a home to contemporary architecture. “Nothing can define a place quite as distinctly as its architecture,” the publication stated. “The visual design of a city can transport you through time, while planting you firmly in a very specific place.”

The Burj al Arab and Burj Khalifa are just some of Dubai’s fascinating structures.

Dubai Named as One of Best Cities for Architecture Lovers

“Over the course of ten years, Dubai’s landscape has transformed,” the travel magazine revealed. “Home to the world’s tallest building, a seven-star hotel (the Burj al Arab), and the only man-made archipelago modeled after the seven continents, Dubai’s development has lured top contemporary architects like Zaha Hadid and Rem Koolhaas to feed into its outdoor design frenzy.”

The world’s 20 best cities for architecture lovers, along with their specific “styles,” are as follows:

  1. St. Petersburg, Russia: Rococo
  2. Brasília, Brazil: Futurism
  3. Athens, Greece: Classical
  4. Budapest, Hungary: Art Nouveau
  5. Rome, Italy: Baroque
  6. Hanoi, Vietnam: French Colonial
  7. Miami, Florida: Art Deco
  8. Mason City, Iowa: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie School
  9. Tel Aviv, Israel: Bauhaus
  10. Barcelona, Spain: Catalan Modernism
  11. Seattle, Washington: American Arts & Crafts
  12. Chandigarh, India: Mid-Century Modernism
  13. Florence, Italy: Renaissance
  14. Istanbul, Turkey: Byzantine/Ottoman
  15. Columbus, Indiana: Modernism and Post-Modernism
  16. Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, New York: Victorian
  17. Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Contemporary
  18. Marrakech, Morocco: Moorish Architecture
  19. Oxford, England: Gothic Revival
  20. Portland, Oregon: Green Architecture

Meanwhile, here’s a social media photo showing Dubai’s “World Islands:”

We all know how awesome Dubai’s architecture is, but recognition such as these are like sweet icing on the cake. As the city continues to develop, we can only look forward to more exciting projects and structures. And of course, our cameras will be ever ready to take pictures!
