Pinoy Nurses Help Pregnant Filipina Give Birth in Emirates Flight from Dubai to Clark

An overseas Filipino worker found herself unexpectedly in labor and gave birth during her flight from Dubai to Clark, Philippines last Saturday, November 21, 2020. Fortunately, two Filipina nurses were on the same flight, and they were able to assist the OFW as well as the rest of the cabin flight crew.

In a post shared by ABS-CBN News, the baby was safely delivered with the help of fellow Pinoy nurses in the flight. Upon arrival in Clark International Airport, emergency teams welcomed the mother with her newborn child so they will be assisted further.

The Filipinos who helped the pregnant Pinay were identified as Keizel Cruz, and Justine Paolo Bueno, who both have nursing degrees. Thank you to both of you for assisting our fellow kabayan!

Kabayans Help Pregnant Filipina Give Birth in Emirates Flight from Dubai to Clark

According to one of the Filipina nurses who attended to the OFW, Keizel Cruz, both the mother, Lalaine Edip, and the newborn baby named Sheikah McQueen, were healthy and in stable condition, the Gulf News reported.

The successful delivery took place Saturday afternoon, three hours before an Emirates flight from Dubai was scheduled to land at Clark International Airport (CRK).

Sharing her experience of the fateful incident, Cruz said that she was chatting with some people during the flight when the crew supervisor told her there was a woman who was already in labor and was about to give birth soon.

Everyone was calm. I knew the crew were trained to deliver babies, but it was also nice to have a medical professional to help in the delivery. So, as a registered nurse and based on my hospital experience, I took the lead and we proceeded with the sterile technique of natural delivery. We successfully delivered Baby Sheikah McQueen two hours before landing, at 1.30pm (Philippines time),” Cruz shared.

When the Filipina had successfully given birth, the cabin manager announced that a baby had been successfully delivered 35,000 feet above sea level and everyone on board burst into a wild cheer.

When the plane had landed in Clark, representatives from the Bureau of Quarantine at Clark International Airport immediately attended to the mother and her newborn, as they were both rushed to the hospital for a check-up and medical treatment.

Keizel Cruz, Former Dubai OFW,  Leads Delivery of Fellow Pinay in Emirates Flight

Keizel Cruz was a former Dubai OFW who worked for Emirates as a cabin attendant. We are glad she was there at the right moment and took the lead in managing the delivery.

She and her family were in the Dubai-Clark flight as passengers after visiting India where she took her daughter for a liver transplant. It was surely fate that brought these two mothers together. We are proud of our fellow kabayan for supporting our fellow kabayan. She was also upgraded to Business Class by Emirates airline.

Below is a post from Keizel’s FB page, and how proud she was to have helped in delivering the baby:

May this story inspire others to help one another especially in these times of need. We thank Keizel and the rest of the team for the safe delivery of the Baby Sheikah McQueen. 🙂
